| Sharon became intrigued with pottery in El Paso,
Texas 25 years ago, while watching a friend throw pots on a potter's
wheel. She knew at that moment she wanted to work with clay and learn how
to throw pots. Sharon learned the techniques by taking classes from
different potters. Mathilda Wood at Concord academy in Massachusetts was
instrumental in helping her conquer the techniques of "throwing" on the
potters wheel. Todd Kupyer from Worthington, Ohio expanded her interest
and creative abilities in hand building techniques.
In 1987, after moving to East Tennessee, what began with teaching a new friend, Mary Curtin, how to make a hand build clay pot, became the beginning of a lasting friendship and an ongoing business partnership. Later, Sharon moved to Arkansas, but they continue to make and sell their baskets at art and craft shows. Sharon and Mary's stoneware baskets are special because each basket is a handmade work of art. No two are exactly like. Herbs, leaves, wildflowers and various lace fabrics are pressed into the wet clay making unique designs. Their baskets are shown from Arkansas to Tennessee and beyond. Meet Sharon and Mary at a show near you and see their artwork. Contact the potters at potters@stonewarebaskets.com. | |
